Dean Ruth, MBA, network executive for The Halley Consulting Group, has worked in the healthcare industry for more than 25 years and he has considerable insight in both physician-owned and hospital-owned medical practices. His experience includes serving as practice manager for a family practice/urgent care group—part of the largest physician-owned medical group in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Prior to joining Halley Consulting, Dean served as the practice administrator for a large cardiology group where he expanded the practice’s footprint to capture additional patient volume. He has also served as Director of Physician Services in southeastern North Carolina where he had overall accountability for a multispecialty network that included primary care, orthopedics, gastroenterology, urology, endocrinology, rheumatology, psychiatry, ob/gyn, general surgery, sleep medicine, weight management and ophthalmology. Dean led efforts to obtain one of the state’s first Joint Commission ambulatory accreditations.
As a Halley Consulting executive, Dean has worked with the largest Catholic health system in Illinois with a multispecialty network of physicians consisting of 100+ practices and 300+ providers. His experience and areas of expertise with clients include network development where he analyzed practice financials and cultural fit. Dean has also established effective financial management tools, developed new service line programs and worked with a Midwest region client to successfully revise their staffing model to improve provider efficiency that resulted in an additional $400k in net revenue for the network. Most recently, Dean has worked with another Mid-western network to redefine their governance accountability and rebuild their management infrastructure.
In October 2017, Dean co-authored, with colleague Dale Gentz, “Keys to effective practice operations management”, published in MGMA Connection.
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Carolina University and a Masters of Business Administration, with a concentration in healthcare administration, from Pfeiffer University. Dean is a resident of Thomasville, North Carolina.
